Privacy Policy

Information you provide. When you set up a profile, you choose a username and an avatar. If you continue with Google, we receive the email address of your Google account; Catanova does not use your Google name or photo. If you add friends, we keep your friends list. If you send us feedback or an email, we receive what you send.

Information created when you play. The Service keeps a record of the games you take part in, such as the moves made, the result and who played. This lets you reconnect to a game, see your match history and keeps games fair.

Technical information. Like most websites, the Service receives technical information from your browser, such as your IP address and browser type. IP addresses are used briefly to protect the Service from abuse and are not stored. If you choose to include technical details with feedback, we also receive the room code, game version, browser, screen size, connection and the last error shown, never your cards.

We use the information we collect to:

• provide, operate and maintain the Service, including your profile, friends and games;
• let you reconnect to games and see your match history;
• show your friends when you are online, as described below;
• keep the Service secure and prevent abuse and cheating;
• understand how the Service is used and improve it; and
• respond to your messages and feedback.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Your username and avatar are shown to other players in the rooms and games you join, and players at your table can send you a friend request. Players signed in with Google can find you by username. Your friends can see whether you are online and can watch a game you are playing. They can also see how long ago you were last online, unless you turn off Show when you were last online in Settings, under Privacy.

The Service keeps some information in your browser’s storage so that it works properly, such as your sign-in session, the seat you are playing, your settings and your analytics choice. It also sets one small cookie that remembers this browser is signed in, so that catanova.io can open your home directly; the cookie contains no name or other personal details. Google Analytics sets its own cookies only if you allow analytics.

We use service providers to help us run the Service. They handle information on our behalf and only as needed to provide their service:

• Hosting, which runs our game server and stores its database;
• Sign-in and accounts, which keeps your account;
• Guest check, which checks that a new guest is a person;
• Bot moves, which works out moves for bots from the state of a game and receives that game state, not your name or email;
• Email, which delivers messages sent to our contact address; and
• Google Analytics, only if you allow it.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect the safety and rights of Catanova, our players or others.

We keep information for as long as it is needed to provide the Service and for the purposes in this policy. A guest profile expires after seven days without activity: its username and avatar are then deleted and the name can be taken again, while the games it played remain part of our game records. Account information is kept until you ask us to delete it, and game records are kept so that match history and results remain available.

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

The Service and our service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Wherever it is processed, we protect it as this policy describes.

You can change your username and avatar, turn off Show when you were last online, and change your analytics choice at any time. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain uses of it. There is no delete button yet; to make a request, email contact@catanova.io with your username.

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page.
